Mandatory victory for Bayern?
On the 18th matchday of the Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich will face SV Werder Bremen on Sunday. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. in Munich.
The Munich team started the new year with a confident 3-0 win against TSG Hoffenheim. Halfway through the season, the reigning German champions are four points behind leaders Leverkusen. However, Bayern played one game less.

After the Hoffenheim game, coach Thomas Tuchel’s (50) team went to the training camp in Faro (Portugal) on Sunday. The record champions were preparing for the second half of the season there until Thursday.
After a break, central defenders Matthijs de Ligt (24) and Dayot Upamecano (25) returned to the pitch at the end of the training camp in Portugal. The club announced this on Wednesday. But De Ligt only completed one running session. The return of the two professionals gives Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel more options for the defense center.
Thomas Tuchel on De Ligt: “It’s just pain-dependent now, so there’s no injury whatsoever. We hope that he can return to training on Friday and then he should be able to play on Sunday.”

New signing Eric Dier (30), who left the training camp early due to the birth of his first child, could also make his debut on Sunday.
Tuchel on Dier: “He would probably have to be there on Friday for that. I hope everything goes smoothly for him, it’s of course a very good reason to leave, but of course it’s stupid from a sporting perspective and for him personally.”
Werder Bremen has only won one competitive game since the end of October (2-0 against Augsburg) and is in 13th place after the first half of the season with 17 points. Six points separate coach Ole Werner’s (35) team from a direct relegation zone.
