Bayern newcomer Mathys Tel took advantage of the few chances Julian Nagelsmann gave him. A statement before the start of the season is now catching up with the manager.

Munich – Manuel Neuer did not classify the 2-2 win over Borussia Dortmund as a setback, it was a perceived defeat. Anthony Modeste’s last-minute draw gave it FC Bayern restlessness again.

Sky expert Lothar Matthäus warned Nagelsmann, must not “lose the locker room”. Reservists’ dissatisfaction grows faster with every game they don’t win. One of these is Mathys Tel. The 17-year-old striker certainly cannot yet claim to be among the starting eleven. However, he strongly recommended himself for the assignments.

Choupo-Moting in place of Tel: Bayern coach Nagelsmann in criticism

Matthäus does not understand why Nagelsmann Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting replaced Tels against BVB. He refers to a statement from Nagelsmann: “Before the season, Julian Nagelsmann says he expects ten Bundesliga goals from Tel-yes, then he has to let him play,” asks Matthäus.

Tel has already scored in both the Bundesliga and the Cup, and it’s worth seeing. After all, Choupo-Moting was able to put his name on the top scorer list in the 5-0 win against Viktoria Pilsen. Matthäus explains why he thinks Tel would have been the best choice against the BVB.

Matthäus warns Nagelsmann: “You observe something in the cabin”

“He is also a fast player who, due to his speed compared to Choupo-Moting, who has more experience, may also have been the most interesting player because Dortmund had to come,” he explains. “He didn’t bring it. Something like that is obviously observed and discussed in the locker room.”

The decision against Tel alone will not guarantee that Nagelsmann loses the support of Bayern players. Rather, it is the sum of things that are so small that it could put him in a difficult position at some point. He is still firmly in the saddle.

With an average of 2.24 points after 54 Bayern-Bank home games, however, he is in a worse position than his predecessors Niko Kovac and Carlo Ancelotti – certainly a first warning sign. A victory in the last six Bundesliga matches is not enough and “not from Bayern”, as Matthäus and Uli Hoeneß say. (epp)
