FC Bayern Munich: Robert Lewandowski on Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, role models and a failed move to Manchester United

World footballer Robert Lewandowski does not yet see himself at Messi-Ronaldo level. He also talks about a failed United move.

Star striker Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern Munich does not see himself on the same level as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo this year, despite winning the world footballer election this year. The Pole revealed in an interview with France Football.

“Messi and Ronaldo have been sitting at the same table for a long time, at the top. That’s what makes them incomparable,” said the 32-year-old: “I can’t imagine myself next to them in this regard.”

Nevertheless, the goalscorer of the German record champions sees himself on the right path. “If you look at the numbers for this year and last, I’m pretty good in terms of my performance and goals scored.” If he couldn’t sit at a table with the two superstars, “I’ll invite you to eat at mine,” added Lewandowski with a smile.

Lewandowski not yet at the limit: “I have the desire to develop myself further”

Even if he does not mention himself in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo, Lewandowski can look back on a more than impressive past season: 55 goals and ten assists in 47 competitive games, plus the triple with the Munich team and the right-footer continued seamlessly this season and after 18 games it already has 20 hits.

According to his own statements, the Polish international has not yet reached his zenith. “I have the desire to develop myself further. This is all the more important because I know that my time as a professional is limited,” explained Lewandowski: “Progress is not immediately visible. If you repeat something every day, you only see the effect three or three times six months later, not the next day. ” The problem is that “a lot of people want to see the return immediately. Patience is an important virtue, in football as in everyday life.”

Lewandowski owes his passion to three legends. “Alessandro Del Piero, Thierry Henry and Roberto Baggio,” he replied when asked about his role models: “But just like the big names, it was the big stadiums and their atmosphere that made me dream.”

Lewandowski on failed move to Manchester United: “Was ready for it”

In the course of his career, the center forward played in numerous impressive stadiums, in addition to the Allianz Arena, among others, in Signal-Iduna-Park during his time at Borussia Dortmund (2010-2014). Old Trafford almost became his home ground as well.

“After my second year in Dortmund I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson. He wanted to bring me to Manchester,” revealed Lewandowski, who “felt ready” for this step at the time.

However, those responsible at BVB did not want to let him go back then. “That didn’t bother me because things went well at Borussia,” he said.
