A man was fatally hit by a train last night at the 183rd Street station in the Bronx, the 5th person to die on the New York Subway in 72 hours.
The latest case occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, reported Pix11. MTA officials reported that trains line 4 heading towards Manhattan were experiencing delays and Service was suspended between 167th Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
The incident does not appear to have been criminal in nature., according to the NYPD. The victim’s name was not released at this time.
Previously this week, In 22 hours from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon, four people were run over and killed. at stations in Harlem, Midtown and Brooklyn, and at least one of the cases was declared homicide.
The first case occurred shortly before 7 pm on Monday, when a man was fatally pushed onto the tracks at the 125th Street and Lexington Avenue station on the 4/5/6 lines. That crime happened just hours and blocks from where the New York City Police Department had announced a new operation aimed at improving security within the Metro system.
Victim Jason Volz (53) was pronounced dead at the scene. 24-year-old suspect Carlton McPherson was arrested and later charged with murder. Police described him as a person with mental health problems and said he had been out on bail for a previous assault in October.
Then, on Tuesday morning, another victim was fatally struck by a train at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park/Fifth Avenue station in downtown Washington. Midtown Manhattan. Just hours later, around 2 p.m. another person was hit by a train at the Beverley Road station on the Q line in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The incident also did not appear to have been criminal in nature, according to the NYPD.
A teenage girl was later hit and killed by a train near the F/G/R 4th Avenue-9th Street station in Park SlopeBrooklyn, around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the FDNY.
