Are a deadly danger: So-called water rollers in rivers.

It happened on the night of Sunday, in the hour after midnight. A 48-year-old man had bathed with other people in the Glatt, in the area of the waterfall above the Au sports complex. According to the first findings of the canton police, the 48-year-old wanted to help a colleague who had gotten into trouble and got caught in the water himself.
How the accident happened exactly is still unclear. Shortly before one o’clock, the protection & rescue operations center received a report that a lifeless man had been pulled out of the water. Despite the immediate resuscitation, he died at the scene of the accident, the police say.
Bathing water is not smooth
The Opfiker construction director Bruno Maurer can not remember a similar case. The Glatt is actually not a bathing water, he says. And at the waterfall it is particularly unattractive to bathe, as the water foams there. According to Maurer, the step is about 70 centimeters.
The city once wanted to build a small power station there, but the canton did not approve it. In the past, a covered wooden bridge crossed the Glatt at this point. Around ten years ago it fell victim to a fire, whereupon the city built a new bridge a little further downstream.
