Fascists beat reporters in riots in Vienna – Vienna

Brutal attack on a Kurdish journalist in Vienna after the demo on Saturday: Turkish youth are suspected.

At first it seemed as if the Kurdish demo in Vienna was going on Saturday without attacks by violent Turkish nationalists. As it became known on Sunday, there was apparently a brutal attack on a Kurdish journalist. As “orf.at” reports, Nurettin Civandag was hit and beaten on the way home by the demo in favorites of several perpetrators.

The police have confirmed the incident. The victim suspects Turkish youths behind the crime. The Vienna State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (LVT) was involved because of a possible political motive. It is not yet clear whether the perpetrators belong to the extreme right-wing “gray wolves” who have repeatedly disrupted Kurdish demos in the past few days.

Head injuries

Civandag was admitted to the UKH Meidling after the attack. “He must have been injured in the area of the teeth,” said a police spokesman to “orf.at”. The rescue service stated that the man also suffered bruises in the head area. The journalist had repeatedly reported on the demos and riots.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) announced on Saturday that he would take action: “It is important to have a zero tolerance policy here.” First, the backers of the riots are to be investigated by the Federal Criminal Police Office. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) has also commissioned the Vienna State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the fight against terrorism to hold talks with Turkish associations.
