Fanny Lu and her reflection in music

With her first release of the year, “Yo quiero un amor”, the artist returns to her essence, with accordion rhythms, with the air of cumbia present and lyrics of empowerment for women.

Tell us about “I want a love”, your new single …

I want a love is a very beautiful song. I believe that love and the heart must be idealistic. Outside there will always be the perfect love for you and when we resign ourselves to harmful love, we miss the opportunity to truly love. This is an invitation for all those women who are in a stormy relationship and do not dare to leave it. I want a love is also part of my life experiences and understanding that love does exist.

What inspires you to compose?

Life itself. I am a super-feminist, not only because I am a woman, but because I insist on the value of women for society. What would the world be without women. Sometimes we mistreat women and we also do it ourselves, we take away our courage. Self-esteem is very important. As an OAS Goodwill Ambassador for Women’s Rights, I told you: you with everything technical and I with everything human.

As an OAS Goodwill Ambassador, how do you work for the empowerment of women through music?

I want to empower women from self-love, with everything human. When you love yourself, you do not accept less than what you deserve, you do not accept being mistreated, you do not accept a harmful love or that you are not given the place you deserve. The issue of gender equity is very important; But in love you have to believe that you deserve something healthy and not harmful, that not only affects you, but the whole family. In general, that supposed love becomes a cause for sadness when it should be something full of happiness, so for me the songs come from my heart and they start from my experience or that of others. I intend to empower women from the heart, who are my ally and my great companion in music.

Their flag for the defense of rights are also children …

I have had a great love for children since I do not ask for flowers, they have been an unconditional audience, because children never lie, if a child tells you that he loves you it is true. If he likes your music he will tell you and if not, too. It is the purest love of all, honest and most unconditional. I am supermom and supermaternal, I have learned it from my mother and that is how I am with my children and with the children of others, like the children of La Voz, who also feel like mine and I love that they approach me and give me hugs. That is why I take such care of the language of my songs and what I post on the networks. That is why I include them and respond to them with that same love that they give me.

How has that creative process been with “I want a love”?

I think the creative process is a constant reinvention. Sometimes you go one way and other times you realize it and say: a minute, a minute, my heart goes there. You have to defend both the essence, because it is as individual as your fingerprint, that’s when you feel comfortable and defend what you do on a platform. It is a very beautiful moment of being what I am and in which the public has also given me that opportunity. Every time I make songs that are closer to my roots, the public loves it and it is where I feel best and most comfortable. This tastes like ranchera, popular music, cumbia, my beautiful accordion, which adds so much to my music. Happy to meet my music, so I feel that music is the reflection of who I am.

What does making music mean in your life?

I have a very strong connection with music. It is an award, a gift that God gives me to be able to send a message and connect with people. Music makes me feel powerful, grateful and value my audience very much. I have a responsibility to him when I sit down to compose. Such a genuine connection, because so many people who give me their love even without ever having seen me physically, but feeling that they know me deeply; I value that a lot.

How have you used this pandemic time?

It has helped me to value the spaces in the house and dedicate time to it. As well as treasure the moments with my children, because I missed them a lot in my eternal travels and it is to have the opportunity to be with them again when they get up, when they go to bed … I went back into the study to give myself the opportunity to find there, in the depth of my heart, the messages that I want to give. For that reason it has been a time of much reflection and learning.

Does Tik Tok dance to “I want a love”?

We already have the challenge (challenge) of Tik Tok. I’m happy about that, because I love dancing. I want to invite everyone to join in and do so. This is a way to also connect with music through dance.

Could this release be a preview of a Fanny Lu album?

I am already preparing the songs to present an album. I am very romantic about records, because it seems to me that they mark a very important moment as an artist, as if it were a chapter in a book; so I’m already planning the compilation of several songs to release very soon.
