The trial of the rapist teacher continued and ended yesterday. Faced with the facts, the Court of Appeal sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape of a minor under 15, who is more vulnerable.

As the presiding judge had not closed the proceedings yesterday, during the first day of the trial, the mother of the victim wished to speak again this morning, before the pleadings began. Words which prove, once again, the will of the family to fight. She wanted to press on a new element: the radio. His lawyer, Georges-André Hoarau, wanted to highlight elements of his childhood. Thomas would have been the accomplice, at his expense, in his mother’s infidelities. Although he states that it disturbed him, he does not personally see a connection to what he did. Me Hoarau also speaks of a real sexual misery of which his client is a victim. His wife allegedly threatened to leave him if they didn’t have sex at least twice a week.
Incarcerated since April 25, 2019, and followed twice a month by a psychologist in detention, Thomas does not seem to have taken the time to reflect. On the contrary, according to Me Anna Ferrère, defense lawyer, the accused would have prepared a whole mechanism in less than a year before taking action.

The lawyer notes that Thomas’s family were not present at the trial, although he says he had visits from them in detention. At the stand, the accused even admits that his son said that
“people who touch children should go to jail and not live.”
But his impulses were stronger. Across the room, Claire’s family is devastated. “We would give him the good god without confession, but behind is a real blackboard”, confesses the Advocate General. According to her, Thomas wanted to work in a specialized institute to have more freedom, “it was his hunting ground”. Claire’s parents had put her in IME to protect her, “they could never have imagined that the wolf was in the fold”, she adds. Despite her difficulties, Claire was able to express her sadness. She had declared “prison, closed, in the cage”

The Advocate General has requested 18 years of criminal imprisonment. Upon release, the aggressor must have socio-legal follow-up for 10 years. It is also forbidden to exercise a job in contact with minors.
After deliberation, Thomas was sentenced to 15 years in prison. 5 years of imprisonment also hover over his head in the event of non-compliance with post-detention monitoring. The court also awarded € 20,000 in moral damages for Claire as well as € 10,000 for each of the parents.
