Facebook participates in rape culture, says ex-SQ investigator

Social networks like Facebook participate “absolutely” in the culture of rape by not doing as much as they could to eliminate child pornography content from their platforms, according to former Sûreté du Québec investigator Paul Laurier.

“Of course there isn’t just Facebook. Facebook is there to make money, is not there to provide security, is not there to govern its content, is there for people, the media, advertisements, is there for the shareholder ” , explained the former police officer and expert in cyber investigation, in interview with Geneviève Pettersen, Friday, at QUB radio.

The host used as an example a post she reported to Facebook, which invited men to join a “sex group” to meet “beautiful women” who “need sex.”

The page in question used images of a young girl who at first glance appeared to be underage. Facebook initially responded that the post did not violate community standards.

The page was eventually removed by the platform after Mr.me Pettersen contacted Facebook directly.

“As my former boss used to say, we hurry slowly,” said Paul Laurier.
