F1 to cancel US GPs, add Germany, Portugal and Imola to calendar

Formula 1 will not race on American soil this year, but will add Imola, the Nürgburgring and Portimao to the calendar at the same time. That reports, among others, the German RTL.

The developments surrounding the 2020 Formula 1 calendar are again in full swing. Currently, the counter is at ten Grands Prix, but that is still considerably less than Formula 1 director Ross Brawn originally intended. Now there seems to be another line through quite a few races. Among other things Motorsport.com writes that it has been understood that because of the ever-changing situation surrounding the coronavirus, Formula 1 will not race on American soil this year. This would mean that the Grands Prix of the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil will not return to the calendar this year.

However, there is also good news. It usually entered well RTL reports that Formula 1 is talking to the famous Nürburgring, a well-known circuit in Germany: “Good news for Formula 1 fans: It is official,” writes the German channel. “The king class will ride at the Nürburgring this year between Friday 9 October and Sunday 11 October.” Formula 1 was last driven on this classic track in 2013.

However, it does not stop there. RTL also reports that the weekend of October 25 will be raced in Portimao, Portugal and in the weekend of November 1 in Imola, Italy. This would mean that Italy can organize three Grands Prix this year, in addition to Monza and Mugello. This brings the calendar to a total of thirteen races, all of which will be held in Europe. However, an official confirmation from Formula 1 will be delayed.
