Extinction Rebellion activists carry out actions this Friday in Lille and Mardyck

A few days before the start of COP 27
Extinction Rebellion activists are organizing actions this Friday in the north to denounce companies they believe are making climate change worse.

Mobilized in Mardyck and Lille

Several dozen activists initially published themselves opposite the entrance to the TotalEnergies depot in Mardyck, near Dunkirk, to denounce a “criminal” company for the climate. Some of the protesters painted the perimeter wall with molasses, which is embossed with the company logo.

Shortly after in Lille, another action: about fifteen demonstrators settled around 11:30 in Place Rihour, in front of the Crédit du Nord branch, accused of “financing fossil fuels”: What we want is to warn people of what is happening. Many people have accounts with Société Générale or other banks and do not know how their savings are used to finance oil and ecocide projects. explains one of the activists mobilized for this action.

After throwing a few bales of hay across the street, the demonstrators sitting on the ground were quickly moved by the police, in the calm. Among them, Pablo, 18, is willing to take risks to defend the climatic cause: I would like to go to college, like all young people my age, but no. I am in Lille blocking a street, chained to the people, taking on considerable legal risks. All to hope for a future explains this spokesperson for the Youth Movement for Climate ( Friday for the future).
