Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Mayor Field who is also the son-in-law of President Joko Widodo, Bobby Nasution admitted that he would improve relations with journalists after the incident the two journalists were evicted at the municipal government office Paspampres.

Bobby spoke thus in front of the Chairman of the North Sumatra PWI Hermansjah, the Chairperson of the North Sumatra IJTI Budiman Amin Tanjung, the Chairman of the SMSI of North Sumatra Zulfikar Tanjung, the Coordinator of the Medan City Government Journalist Unit Edison Ginting and several other journalists.

“In the future, we both carry out our duties. Whatever gaps that can be fixed, I as the Mayor of Medan will continue to fix them,” said Bobby in breaking the fast together at Tjong A Fie’s House, quoting Antara, Friday (16/4).

Bobby himself admitted that he already knew information about the issue of expelling journalists. According to him, it was a misunderstanding.

“So yesterday someone said, evict and all sorts. I said, let’s go to the city office and give us a place. But later, those who enter also have identification marks,” he said.

Bobby agreed that the Medan City Government needed to have good relations with journalists. Therefore, he did not want the misunderstanding to repeat itself when each party carried out its duties.

“So we also listened, then friends in carrying out their duties had the identity of journalists to maintain our security,” he said.

On the same occasion, PWI North Sumatra, Hermansjah said that the meeting with Bobby was an attempt to straighten out the misunderstanding that had occurred until journalists held a demonstration.

“So today we will straighten out the misunderstanding by inviting journalists and conveying the technical aspects of the future when reporters are about to interview,” he said.

Previously, Paspampres Commander Maj. Gen. Agus Subianto said that the ban was carried out because people who claimed to be journalists did not show press identification. On that basis, its personnel do not allow journalists to be in the mayor’s office.

The incident also made journalists protest. They criticized the attitude of the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres), the Police, and the Satpol PP for expelling a number of journalists when they were about to interview the Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution.
