An explosion occurred in a school building in Ticino on Saturday afternoon. A 22-year-old American suffered severe burn injuries. According to the Ticino cantonal police, the young man burned himself in many parts of his body in the accident. According to the police, he is not in mortal danger. He was flown to a clinic for burn injuries at the University Hospital Zurich by helicopter.

The American had cooked in a pan with oil in a bedroom in a school in Sorengo near Lugano, the press release said. This pan started to burn for as yet unknown reasons, and an attempt to extinguish it caused an explosion. (SDA)
