TVThe Sikh community in our country is not satisfied with the most recent broadcast of ‘Very Best Viewers’ on VTM. In the episode you can see how Natalie Meskens (38) and her guests sing a rude and explicit text to the tunes of ‘Ek Onkar’, an already existing and well-known song about faith. “People simply laugh at other people’s religion,” the Sikhs now react in dismay.

“I’m coming, put that whore on your site”, Nathalie Meskens and her guests sang during the episode in question. They did it to the tunes of ‘Ek Onkar’ because the words to that song sounded like “I’m coming, put that whore on your site” according to them. But the Sikh community clearly does not agree with that.

“Ek Onkar means ‘There is one God, God is one’”, an indignant Sikh responds to Het Nieuwsblad. “That is a general principle of Sikhism. They are the opening words of the holy book of the Sikhs, namely Guru Granth Sahib. People simply laugh at someone else’s religion. ” He also wants to give VTM some good advice: “It doesn’t hurt to do some research before you broadcast something on national television,” he says. “It could have prevented the sentiment of thousands of Sikhs from being affected. We absolutely don’t want to promote violence or hatred, we just want to show it is disrespectful. ”

Response VTM
The commotion has not escaped VTM either: the channel responds to the criticism of the passage in question. “’Dear Viewers’ and now the variant ‘Very Best Viewers’, in which fragments from the archive of all seasons are collected, is a humorous program. It is never the intention to shock or insult people ”, spokeswoman Anja Peleman tells us. “We sincerely apologize if this fragment has hurt anyone. We do regret that there is massive pressure being carried out by a stream of messages, because ‘Dear Viewers’ is and remains a program where humor is the leitmotiv and where the starting point is that everything should be able to laugh. ”
