Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease when the immune system.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease when the body’s immune system destroys the protective layer of nerves. This neurological condition that can interfere with brain and body communication is suffered by several celebrities including Christina Applegate and Selma Blair.

There are many potential symptoms of MS, even if they seem a bit vague. Reported from EatThis, Sunday (5/6/2022), here are some signs MS according to experts.

1. Vision problems

Inflammation of the optic nerve, also known as optic neuritis tends to be MS symptoms the most common, according to Dr. Thomas Shoemaker, a neurologist and MS expert at Rush Multiple Sclerosis Center. Your eyes hurt when you move, your vision is blurry or dim, or you may see colors (usually red or green).

2. Numbness or tingling

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a numb or tingling sensation in the face, body, arms, or legs is a common first sign of MS. A person with MS may have less numbness in the hands and face, as well as tingling in the feet.

3. Problems with balance

The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation notes that difficulty walking or balance is one of the more commonly reported symptoms among people with MS. Problems with balance can result in a wobbly gait from side to side. It is caused by a condition called ataxia, when the part of the nervous system responsible for voluntary muscle movement is disturbed.

4. Fatigue

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, about 80 percent of people with MS experience fatigue. The fatigue associated with MS tends to occur on a daily basis and can appear even after a good night’s sleep. It can come on easily and suddenly and often gets worse as the day progresses, affecting a person’s ability to work and perform daily activities.

5. Kekakuan

Stiffness in the body is another common sign of MS. Muscles throughout the body may feel tight, often the legs, groin, buttocks, and back. This occurs because MS lowers the nerves in the brain and spinal cord that control muscle movement and reflexes. Stiffness may be mild, or it may be uncontrolled spasms. Fortunately, a number of treatments are available, from physical therapy to medication.
