NASA to Launch 3 Astronaut Mannequins for Mission to the Moon

Liputan6.com, NASA – Before humans return to Month In the near future, three puppet astronauts will be tested first by NASA.

In the near future NASA will test NASA’s Artemis 1 mission via three mannequins. Consists of one male mannequin and two female mannequins. This variation of the mannequin is made with materials that simulate the things that make up humans, such as skin, bones, and organs.

From that scientists will derive important and inclusive data on radiation for future Artemis astronauts in 2023 and beyond. On Tuesday 29 June 2021, NASA announced the name of the mannequin, namely Commander Moonikin Campos through a public opinion poll that received 300,000 votes.

The last name Campos was taken in honor of Arturo Campos, who helped direct the Apollo 13 astronauts safely back to Earth after an oxygen tank failed on their spacecraft.

Launching from Mashable on Tuesday (6/7/2021). Commander Moonikin Campos will wear the full Orion Crew Survival System suit, just as astronauts will wear in future phases of the Artemis mission. Campos also wore several sensors to detect the amount of radiation that astronauts could encounter aboard the Orion spacecraft.

Meanwhile, female mannequins named Helga and Zohar were named in 2020 by the German Aerospace Center and the Israeli Space Agency. Both have radiation sensors embedded throughout the body, they will test the AstroRad vest, which is designed to protect astronauts’ vital organs from radiation.

Zohar will wear the vest and Helga will not. From here scientists will know the effectiveness of these clothes.

The female mannequin allows scientists to measure how radiation can affect women. Because women tend to have a greater sensitivity to radiation than men, according to NASA data in 2020.

AstroRad vests have been worn by astronauts NASA on the International Space Station (ISS) to test their suitability, comfort and mobility.
