Beijing: Experts have rejected reports of a military coup against Chinese President Xi Jinping. They point to Xi’s absence from the public arena after the Shanghai Corporation Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as the main reason for the rumors.

International media also picked up the news as social media circulated that Xi had been removed from his post as head of the People’s Liberation Army of China (EPL) and was under house arrest.
However, Adil Brar, a journalist and expert on Chinese subjects, says that China’s strict Covid quarantine rules are keeping the president out of the public eye. China’s covid policy is that everyone who comes from overseas should remain in quarantine. He also shared a screenshot showing that there are no restrictions on air travel in China.
