NEW YORK – On Wednesday, the Office of the Ombudsman for Immigration Affairs (MOIA) and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) held a roundtable with immigrant media in honor of May Day to discuss The newly expanded Workers’ Bill of Rights, a comprehensive, multilingual guide to workplace rights in New York City.

This new version of the Workers’ Bill of Rights summarizes additional municipal laws and now also includes state and federal laws that protect workers and job seekers in New York City, regardless of their immigration status.

Local Law 161 of 2023 requires New York City employers to provide their employees with information about their rights at work.

  • Employers must post the multilingual poster “Know your rights at work” in all New York City workplaces, where employees can easily see it.
  • Employers must provide a copy of the poster to all employees by July 1, 2024. After July 1, employers must provide a copy of the poster to new employees on or before their first day of work.
  • Employers must provide the poster on any online platform used to communicate with their employees, such as an intranet or company app.
