14 new Ebola cases confirmed in the DRC

Fourteen new cases of Ebola virus were confirmed from January 8 to 14 in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday in a statement.

According to the last epidemiological bulletin dated Thursday, January 16, all 14 new confirmed cases reported in the last seven days were contacts recorded before the onset of symptoms, and had epidemiological links with the chain of transmission that originated from Aloya , in the Mabalako health zone.

From December 25, 2019 to January 14, 2020, 40 confirmed cases were reported, including 43% in the Mabalako health zone.

As of January 14, a total of 3,406 cases of Ebola have been recorded in the DRC, including 3,288 confirmed cases and 118 probable cases, including 2,236 cases of death, according to the WHO.
