Emmanuel André is certainly THE face that represents the fight against the coronavirus in Belgium. And if he’s been a little less visible since he left his post as inter-federal spokesperson Covid-19, he remains active in the shadows.
In an interview with our colleagues from Nieuwsblad, the 38-year-old professor recalls that “the weeks will be hypercrucial for our country”. Recently appointed “coordinator of the inter-federal committee for the management of tracing”, Emmanuel André explains that it has been “easy to put people in lockdown, but that it will be much more complicated to get them out safely”.
On this subject, we obviously do not forget that, throughout this health crisis, the different people involved in the decisions had to agree according to each of their interests. If the economic aspect is, necessarily, important to take into account for our policies, the experts them, would have still waited before reviving the country. And not just a little: “If it were up to virologists, it would be very simple: everyone locked out for a year.”
Regarding tracing, Emmanuel André also recalls that he and his team are really considering the development of a mobile application for tracking contacts.
