Even if Russia loses war with Ukraine, it will have similar ambitions – NATO official

The Russians will learn from the war and “try to improve what they had,” according to the Alliance.

In case of defeat Russia in the war against Ukraine, the plans of the aggressor country will remain unchanged, said the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer.

About this Bauer said at a press conference following a meeting of the committee at the level of chiefs of staff.

The representative of the Alliance answered the question of how NATO’s calculations for a potential conflict with the Russian Federation are affected by the fact that Russian forces in the war with Ukraine are being depleted.

“I think that all states agree with the fact that regardless of the outcome of the war, the Russians are likely to have similar ambitions. Even if they lose the war with Ukraine, they will continue to have the same ambitions. And for this reason, the threat does not disappear,” the admiral said.

He informed that in the war against Ukraine, Russia has exhausted its forces, ammunition, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery systems.

“The general opinion is that Russians will restore what they had. They will also learn from this conflict and try to improve what they had,” Bauer warned.

According to him, this situation will affect the future plans of NATO. It remains only a question how quickly the Russian Federation will be able to restore the pre-war potential and improve it.

“They were not very successful when they invaded Ukraine. It will take time. And is it about a period of three to five years, or from three to ten years – this is what we should talk about together. This will be studied by the intelligence services,” the head of the Alliance Military Committee said.

It should be noted that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during his speech at the uniform in Davos, said that NATO membership will “the best guarantee of security” for the state, but Russia is doing everything possible to prevent this.
