even easier with iOS 11

Scan documents on iPhone or iPad? This is completely simple with iOS and without third-party apps. How you can use the scan function in the Notes app, we reveal in the following instructions.

Important invoices, prescriptions or letters – all important documents can be easily scanned and archived on an iPhone. With the release of iOS 11 in late 2017, Apple donated a native scanning feature to its mobile operating system. Before iOS 11, scanning was also possible, but only with the support of third-party apps.

Scan documents on iPhone

You can find the function in the Notes app. After opening the app, tap the writing symbol in the lower right corner to create a new note. Then press the small camera icon in the menu bar above the keyboard, then select the “Scan documents” option. I

The iPhone camera now acts as a scanner. However, to get a better result, there are a few things you need to pay attention to when scanning. Use the symbol with the three circles to access the color selection. Choose from color, grayscale, black and white, and photo. The default is color. As usual, you can use the lightning bolt icon to toggle between “Auto”, “On” and “Off” options. Using a flashlight is essential for achieving acceptable results, especially in difficult lighting conditions.

Correctly align the camera and adjust it

Now point the camera at the desired object and make sure the box marked in yellow is aligned with the corners of the document. If the original is aligned correctly, press the release button to scan. Once you’ve done that, you can refine and adjust the corners as needed. If you are satisfied with the scan result, press “Keep Scan” to save the document. If you want to try again, just hit “Repeat”.

Edit and share scans

The Notes app in iOS 11 is designed for multiple successive scans. When scanning is complete, you can scan the next document immediately, without having to explicitly select the function again. Scans are still saved in the current note. You can also modify the desired scan directly in the corresponding note. After pressing scan, you can crop the document, change the color, or rotate the object. You can then share the scanned design in the usual way using the share button or import it into other applications.
