Eva Marie’s comeback match turns into a farce

Her return after a four-year absence from WWE has been sold as a big, inspiring comeback story – instead, it picks up where it left off.

The (supposed) first match of Eva Marie on the TV show Monday Night RAW after her reinstatement turned out to be a farce: The former model had another wrestler do all the work for herself in the announced fight against ex-women’s champion Naomi.

After Naomi’s move in, the 36-year-old came to the ring alongside a heavyweight woman hitherto unknown at RAW, who played the match in her place, clearly dominated Naomi and finally handled it with a Michinoku driver.

When the ring announcer did not know who to announce as the winner after the fight, Eva Marie took care of it and announced that she had won the match herself.

Heavyweight Piper Niven does the work for Eva Marie

Eva Marie’s mate – who then hugged her more euphorically than she seemed right – is the Scottish wrestler Kimberly Benson, who competed in the independent sector as Vyper / Viper and in the WWE European squad NXT UK as Piper Niven.

Niven was a participant in WWE’s first Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017 – as was the German wrestler Jazzy Gabert, whom she later met at NXT UK, where Niven has been seen regularly since 2019.

In RAW, Niven’s background in the WWE world was ignored, the commentary team pretended not to know Eva Marie’s “Mystery Friend”. Niven also appeared in a new look with multicolored braids that was reminiscent of Bertha Faye – the role in which Rhonda Singh, who died in 2001, rivaled women’s champion Alundra Blayze and lover of her slender manager Harvey Wippleman in the 1990s.

WWE presents Eva Marie as a hypocrite

Eva Marie’s appearance takes the promo clips with which she was newly introduced ad absurdum: In these she had promised an “Eva Lution” and that with her story she wanted to be a role model for other women and girls who face resistance in life had to overcome.

These clips were obviously designed as a WWE trickery to give Eva Marie’s character an entirely different spin and portray her as a hypocrite.

The 36-year-old is obviously slipping back into exactly the role at WWE that she had in her last appearance in 2016: At that time, she repeatedly withdrew from matches under flimsy pretexts – a segment in which a “wardrobe malfunction” made it particularly famous “was staged and she made a topless appearance.

Drew McIntyre pinnt Champion Bobby Lashley vor Hell in a Cell

In the main match of the evening, the WWE title match at Hell in a Cell on Sunday was further fueled: Bobby Lashley’s challenger Drew McIntyre met in preparation for AJ Styles – a match that ended in chaos when Lashley and McIntyre sat at the ring and Lashley finally went after McIntyre in the ring and caused Styles to be disqualified.

AJ Styles’ 2.20-meter bodyguard Omos and the Viking Raiders – challengers to Styles’ and Omos’ tag team title also tuned in, and a spontaneous six-man tag team match was scheduled.

McIntyre brought about victory for his team by giving Lashley his claymore kick when he was briefly distracted by an accidental substitution of Styles’ – and pinfall the reigning champion before Sunday’s cage duel.

In the shadow of the match, Lashley’s manager MVP talked back behind the scenes to ex-champion Kofi Kingston and advised him to change something to get his career going again. Kingston and partner Xavier Woods of The New Day lost a match at RAW against the unequal duo RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle), who positioned themselves as upcoming challengers and the tag team titles.

Alexa Bliss continues her scary games

The feud between women’s champion Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair boiled again in front of Hell in a Cell: Flair was distracted by Ripley’s presence in a match against Nikki Cross and was counted – with Cross continuing her “winning streak” against Flair and Ripley.

Ripley, in turn, got a tailwind with a win over Asuka, followed by a wild fight with flair.

The strange horror finale of the previous RAW episode, when Shayna Baszler was mysteriously haunted by Alexa Bliss’ horror doll, was followed up in a match between Bliss and Baszler’s partner Nia Jax. Jax’s lover Reginald prevented Jax’s impending defeat with an intervention and then seemed to fall under a hypnotic spell from Bliss.

At Hell in a Cell, this story will continue with a new match between Bliss and Baszler.
