Eurozone private sector activity at a 20-month low in September

The “Purchasing Managers’ Index” (PMI), which characterizes the production and services activity of the private sector, in the Eurozone fell to 48.2 points in September this year, compared to 48.9 in August, registering thus the lowest level in the last 20 months, according to the latest data from the market research firm “S&P Global”.

Furthermore, the index remains below 50 points, indicating a slowdown in activity.

The decline in the index is mainly driven by high inflation, which has a negative impact on the Eurozone’s economic forecasts.

The latest data showed that the manufacturing PMI fell to 49.6 in September from 48.5 a month ago, the lowest level recorded in the past 27 months.

In the services sector, however, the PMI index fell from 49.8 points to 48.9 points, the lowest level since February 2021.
