European countries are trying to persuade Germany of the need to disconnect Russia from SWIFT / Article

Kas ir SWIFT?

SWIFT is an interbank information exchange system that is, simply speaking, an interbank e-mail. SWIFT enables banks to exchange financial information with each other in a secure and structured way, for example by processing interbank payments and facilitating interbank settlements.

SWIFT does not make any payments itself. SWIFT, figuratively speaking, is only a messenger who delivers information by identifying the sender and recipient of the message.

Bank identification codes used by SWIFT are also available to Latvian banks, for example, Swedbank has HABALV22, SEB – UNLALV2X, Luminor has RIKOLV2X. The Latvian Treasury also has its own SWIFT code – TRELLV22, etc.

-Italy has finally been “broken”. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, February 26, that Rome would fully support the EU’s work on sanctions against Russia, “including those involving SWIFT.”

Work is now underway to persuade Germany. The President of Lithuania and the Prime Minister of Poland Morovetsky have gone to Berlin to persuade Germany to agree to the exclusion of Russia from SWIFT. Prior to the meeting, Polish Prime Minister Moravecki called on Germany to put aside “selfishness” and “selfishness” and offer significant support to the Ukrainian people. Moravecki said that German aid to date – helmets for soldiers, not weapons – is a joke and very far from what is needed to help Ukraine defend itself.

“Sanctions, the package of sanctions must be disruptive, massive, really huge. It must be linked to the SWIFT system in order to separate Russia from all dealings with the West,” Moraveckis emphasized.

The Americans and the British also continue to insist that Russia be excluded from this settlement system.

“The UK is working hard to persuade other countries to come with us and remove Russia from the SWIFT system. Several prominent individuals and banks are already on the sanctions list. And, as the Foreign Minister said, there are plans to do more. It is unfortunate that these things are subject to No matter how funny it may sound to many of your viewers, we need to do it legally, “explained Minister James Hippie.

SWIFT, a Belgian company owned by more than 2,000 banks and financial institutions, provides secure messaging services for trillions of dollars in interbank payments.

Meanwhile Germany has agreed to send 400 anti-tank grenade launchers from warehouses in the Netherlands to Ukraine, reports Reuters, citing the German Ministry of Defense. Politico had previously reported that Germany was refusing to refrain from sending weapons to Ukraine.

CONTEXT:

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognizes Donetsk and Luhansk “People’s Republics” on February 21 independence from Ukraine. Putin also threatened Ukraine by demanding that Ukraine immediately cease hostilities against the separatists, “otherwise all responsibility for the possible continued bloodshed will rest entirely with the conscience of the Ukrainian regime.”

On February 24, Putin announcedthat Russia has launched a “military operation” in Ukraine and called on the Ukrainian army to “lay down its arms”. The Russian occupation forces launched an attack on Ukraine, which is fiercely resisting the invaders. The international community strongly condemns Russia’s actions, and new sanctions are being imposed on the Putin regime.
