Europe marks the start of Haikyus for Ukrainians who fled conscription.

The border service cooperates with EU countries and Moldova

The men of military age have been trying to leave the country illegally more than a year after the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. This is stated by the spokesperson of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko, Ukrainian edition “Focus” informs.

According to him, the fugitives will be returned to Ukraine. The State Border Service actively cooperates with EU countries and Moldova, so in all cases the men will be brought to justice.

“After the introduction of martial law, when there were restrictions on leaving the country for men of military age, the number of citizens trying to cross the border illegally increased significantly. Even if the men manage to leave, they cannot settle in Europe, they cannot be considered refugees,” explains Demchenko.

Many of the Ukrainian men, as the spokesperson of the State Border Service noted, are trying to apply for refugee status, but have no grounds to do so. He therefore calls on fugitives and those who organize such trips to refrain from doing so in the future.

Demchenko recalls the story of a Bukovina resident fleeing from Ukraine across the Tisza River to Romania. Everything ended with the man drowning.

“If this person had ended up in Romania and not died, he would have been returned to Ukraine and brought to justice,” he adds.
