The other four countries are Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia.
–
All six have so far been in a group of countries that have been found to be safe enough not to be subject to quarantine and non-essential travel requirements.
–
Following an agreement between the 27 EU member states, the third countries have been removed from the list, according to an EU press release issued on Monday.
–
However, it will be up to each Member State to set restrictions on travelers. It is also unclear at this time when the new arrangements will be introduced.
–
The recommendations are not binding on Member States that can allow fully vaccinated travelers from the United States to enter, despite concerns about the number of adult cases of Covid-19 in that country.
–
Most EU Member States have so far followed the Brussels recommendations on travel in the crisis.
–
With the onset of the pandemic, all EU countries, with the exception of Ireland, banned non-essential travel, with a few exceptions.
–
Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and non-EU Iceland also joined the ban.
–
The ban was slightly lifted in July 2020, but since then only a few countries have been added to the list of exceptions. Israel was added in May this year, and the United States in June.
–
The EU’s safe list, which is regularly reviewed and updated, includes only 17 countries, including Japan, New Zealand and Ukraine.
