Audios and WhatsApp messages held by the US authorities, which are part of the investigation against Fuentes, reveal that he acknowledged that when he was in charge of the entrance bridge through the Nogales, Arizona area, he let the cartel leader pass from Sinaloa.
According to the sentencing memorandum CR 18-02068-RM-EJM, the border agent’s statements caught the attention of the US judicial authorities, because “it shows a reckless disregard for who and what he was willing to enter the United States in exchange for bribes … the defendant allegedly aided several drug traffickers to enter the United States illegally and even at one point illegally entered El Chapo, former leader of the Sinaloa cartel ”.
