The bomb was successfully defused in the evening, or rather at night.

According to the city of Essen, almost 3,800 residents had to be evacuated. More than 12,500 people had to behave in accordance with air protection during the defusing.

The support center at the Robert-Schmidt vocational college was used by around 360 people. More than 80 other people were accommodated separately. In total, more than 320 people affected were evacuated with ambulances during the defusing. Among them were some people with Corona.

Around 460 emergency services from the Essen fire brigade, the RGE, the police, the highway police and highway maintenance department, the public order office and the aid organizations were deployed as part of the defuse. The local emergency services received support from colleagues from Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Oberhausen, Duisburg, Krefeld, Mülheim an der Ruhr, the Wesel district and the Mettmann district.
