“Eric Veits’ Long-Distance Father-Son Relationship: A True Life Story”

Eric was born in 1982, and after separating from his son’s mother, they had a long-distance relationship. Speaking about who was like a father, Veits states: “In the beginning, I went to Liepāja quite often, then less often. I haven’t analyzed what kind of father I was.”

“Now I have a normal relationship with my son. We haven’t talked much about the past, his mother got married after that, Eric had a stepfather. Now we call each other quite often, we help each other when needed.”

“I live in Riga, he works as a French teacher in Liepāja, but he travels a lot, he used to work in the European Parliament. Sometimes I have to pick him up from a trip, other times I have to be at the airport early in the morning. When Erik flies to warm countries, he leaves a bag with me clothes that won’t be needed there. When he comes back, I’ll be waiting for my son. That’s our relationship.”
