Epic Games talks about payments and scams on Fortnite

Epic Games just published an article on their blog where they talk about payments for competitions and the Support a creator program, then scams with the latter program.

“Hello to the whole Epic community.

Here is some important information about competition prices and the payments for the Support a Creator program.

COMPETITION PRICES

Two problems have recently led to a delay in payment of competition prices. The first concerns our DreamHack Anaheim event. In this case, the delays were due to additional California state laws that required manual pricing verification outside of the Hyperwallet system. All DreamHack Anaheim prizes were sent directly to players’ bank accounts. These prizes should be deposited in the winners’ accounts in the coming days. Excuse us for the delay.

The second problem concerns the overpayment of certain winners of online cuts because of a processing error which had to be corrected by hand. Now that we have resolved these payment errors, we can resume distributing the prizes at the usual rate.

PROGRAM PAYMENTS SUPPORT A CREATOR

All payments have recently been transferred to a new system which uses tax identity and Hyperwallet to manage validation of creators’ identities as well as payments. This process caused a number of issues, bugs and other delays. We apologize to all creators for the frustration and confusion that this change may have caused. Although most of these issues have been resolved, here are some solutions for users who do not receive their payments:

  • Minors must have their parents’ authorization and contact details to use the payment platform.
  • Make sure that the correct payment method has been selected before proceeding to payment.
  • Whether personally or for a company, creating a new entity on the Hyperwallet platform requires a new e-mail address. A single email address cannot be used for more than one entity.

If you are still experiencing issues that have nothing to do with the items presented above, please see our Hyperwallet account activation tutorial or contact assistance from the Support a Creator program to ask for help. We are trying to increase our staff on the support team to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

SCAMS VIA SUPPORT A CREATOR

We know there are a number of creators who produce content to scam or cheat players. We are taking steps not only to remove these creators from the ecosystem but also to prevent the appearance of new scams.

These individuals often create false content on social networks and promise false benefits to players in exchange for using a code. Support a specific creator. Another common scam is to create a creative island that promises rewards like free V-bucks cards to players. Players who use these codes never receive the rewards promised by the creator.

Creators cannot offer free V-bucks outfits or cards as a reward for using a creator code. Creating content to scam other players is a violation of the creators’ agreement with Epic Games. This violation may be punished by a ban from the Support a Creator program and by the cancellation of any potential or pending payments.

We take violations of the Terms of Service and the Code of Conduct very seriously and are considering other measures to prevent malicious people from abusing the program, including lawsuits.

To prevent future fraud, we are putting in place certain measures to protect players from content intended to scam them:

  • Creator code changes will no longer be available in the future.
  • A future version of the Support a Creator program will require all creators, new and old, to update and validate their profiles with legitimate social media accounts.

We want the creators’ ecosystem to remain fair and secure. Fraud in the program penalizes the revenue of honest creators who produce quality content and who support Fortnite, the Epic Games Store and players.

To report a scam, please send a message to support and add #reportacreator. A screenshot of the creator code and a link to the content are required for us to investigate. A video would be even better.

Thank you to the whole community for supporting the creators and thank you to the creators for supporting Fortnite! “
