The education minister hereby embraces a plan from GroenLinks that must ensure that apprenticeship companies no longer give their trainees from MBO any compensation. Member of the Lower House Niels van den Berge of Groenlinks said that there are major differences in what MBO trainees receive. Some companies neatly pay a fee, but others think he can finish it with a free lunch.

Establish reimbursement
An apprenticeship company will soon have to lay down what it considers appropriate compensation. The SBB, in which the MBO and the business community work together, will ensure that it is high enough and that the employer also pays it.
Van Engelshoven says it is good that we lay down that right. It also continues to call on employers to pay decent internship allowances. That’s fair, and, moreover, “would you be crazy” if you missed the chance of engaging students in this tight labor market, she says.
