Emma Watson: – Accused of anti-Semitism

The British actor Emma Watson (31) is known for its struggle for feminism. The “Harry Potter” star has, among other things, launched the HeForShe campaign together with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (77), to promote gender equality worldwide.

The 31-year-old has previously ended up in bad weather for his activism, including when she shared three black photos in a row on Instagram during “Blackout Tuesday”.

The movement arose after African American George Floyd lost his life after he was apprehended by three police officers – where one of them pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck, so that in the end he could no longer breathe.

Many people at the time thought that Watson, by sharing three photos instead of one, cared more about the aesthetics of his Instagram profile than about the message behind the photos.

Accused of anti-Semitism

Now the actor receives criticism once again after speaking out. This time, she is accused of anti-Semitism, a term for hostile attitudes and actions directed at Jews, by Israel’s former UN ambassador, Danny Danon (50). It reports The Guardian.

The accusation came as a result of a post the actor shared on Instagram. The picture shows a banner from a propalestine demonstration with the text “Solidarity is a verb”.

This made Israeli politician Danny Danon look red, and he quickly took to Twitter to show his displeasure.

“Ten points to Griffing for being anti-Semitic,” Danon wrote in a well-known “Harry Potter” reference.

Over a million likes

Israel’s current UN ambassador Gilad Erdan has also criticized Watson’s message.

“Fiction works in ‘Harry Potter,’ but not in reality,” he wrote on Twitter.

Danon’s comments on anti-Semitism have also met with opposition.

“A perfect demonstration of the utterly cynical and malicious arming of anti-Semitism to shut down fundamental expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian people,” wrote Leah Greenberg, general manager of Indivisible Project, on Twitter.

Politician and lawyer Sayeeda Warsi agreed, and slammed the Twitter discussion.

“These constant attempts to stifle any and all support for Palestinians must be talked about,” Warsi wrote.

The photo, which was shared on Watson’s Instagram, was originally created by the activist group “Bad Activist Collective” in connection with a clash last year, in which Israeli jets bombed Gaza in response to a rocket attack. At the time, other celebrities including Bella Hadid (25), Dua Lipa (26) and Susan Sarandon (75) expressed their solidarity with Palestine.

At the time of writing, the Instagram photo has over a million likes and more than a hundred thousand comments, many of either Israeli or Palestinian flags.
