Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research Signs Agreement for COP28 Climate Education and Awareness Activities

ABU DHABI, 11th July, 2020 (WAM) — The Office of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the details of the Centre’s commitments and the activities and events it intends to organize during COP28, to contribute to promoting a comprehensive and integrated approach to educating the public about climate.

(COP28) seeks to coordinate global climate education and awareness efforts, highlighting the role played by young people and activating their participation in the global climate education and awareness process and the importance of climate action.

The memorandum of understanding with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research paves the way for organizing events, exhibitions, panel discussions and other educational materials and activities designed to raise awareness of climate change, sustainability and global climate action, which the center will hold in the Green and Blue Zones.

Among the digital assets the center will present at COP28 to streamline information on climate change are shortcasts, videos, and audiobooks.

On this occasion, His Excellency Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, Director General and Special Representative of the UAE Presidency to the COP28 Conference, said: “According to the vision and guidance of the leadership in the UAE, the COP28 presidency is keen to promote effective collective action to simultaneously support sustainable development and climate action, pointing out that the office of the Conference of the Parties COP28 and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research recognize the necessity of joint action in order to effectively address the challenges posed by climate change, and raise awareness of the importance of building a sustainable future for current and future generations.

He added that through this cooperation, we aim to achieve a quantum leap in climate action by benefiting from experiences, paving the way for dialogue, and promoting sustainable development.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Muhammad Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, welcomed the signing of the memorandum of understanding, and said that both sides are working to build a better world for all, and that this partnership clearly confirms the commitment of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research to achieve its strategic goals, by By strengthening partnerships and exchanging experiences in various fields, especially those related to sustainability and climate action, and keeping pace with the UAE’s plans and aspirations for this vital field.

He added: “Since its establishment in March 1994, the Emirates Center has worked on conducting in-depth analyzes of political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and health developments at the local, regional and global levels, with a focus on addressing policies and concerns and supporting the advancement of sustainable development goals for the UAE and the Arab Gulf region, whose strategic importance is growing. .. The center’s comprehensive reports help support decision-makers with valuable analyzes and insights.”

He noted that the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research aims, through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, to build a partnership with COP28, allowing for joint action to direct the world towards an effective path in combating climate change. A global assessment of progress in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement. This assessment will help unify climate action efforts, identifying measures needed to address current gaps and achieve tangible progress across all pathways.”
