Emblematic buildings of Galicia will be illuminated in green for World ALS Day

June 21 is World ALS Day. On the occasion of this day, the
Galician Association of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (AGAELA) together with the Luzón Foundation and the rest of the associations belonging to the ALS Community, have launched the #LuzporlaELA Campaign, in which buildings and monuments from all over Spain will light up green in order to make the disease visible and supporting sick people to raise awareness in society about the difficulties that they entail on a day-to-day basis. Last year 305 monuments were illuminated in 210 municipalities throughout Spain.

In Galicia, more than 60 buildings will be illuminated in green, among which are: the Administrative Building of San Caetano and the City of Culture of Galicia, the Sub-delegation of the Government of Ourense, the buildings of the Provincial Councils of A Coruña, Ourense, Pontevedra and Lugo; the Tower of Hercules and the Fuente de Cuatro Caminos in A Coruña; the Hospital and the San Rafael Foundation; the Fountain of the Umbrella and the Church of Santa María de Cambre; the Castle of Santa Cruz de Oleiros; the City Council of Cangas and Frigoríficos del Morrazo; the Puerta de Carlos V in Viveiro, the Jofre Theater in Ferrol; the Torre del Homenaje in Monforte de Lemos; the Roman Bridge of Ourense; the Glorieta de Freixeiro in Narón; the Torre de Celas in Culleredo; the León Padín roundabout, the roundabout in homage to housewives and the
House of the Council in Ribeira; the Monument to the Shellfish Family, the Local Police Headquarters and the O Grove town hall house; and the Fuentes de Aragón in Vigo.

Also added are Town Halls de Ames, As Pontes, Boqueixón, Brión, Cabanas, Cariño, Cedeira, Coristanco, Muros, Negreira, O Pino, Ordes, Fene, A Guarda, Baiona, Betanzos, A Estrada, Bueu, Cambados, Gondomar, Mazaricos, Moaña, Nigrán , Poio, Ponteareas, Pontevedra, Redondela, Sanxenxo, Tomiño, Tui, Sada, Foz, Lugo, Valadouro, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Palas de Rei, the Pazo de Raxoi in Santiago de Compostela. In addition, the Dinopixel LED Screen will be illuminated at the Puerta del Sol in Vigo, the headquarters of Elevadores Dusa, SL and the Bergondo Industrial Estate.

ALS is an incurable neurodegenerative disease, progressively
disabling and fatal within 3 to 5 years of diagnosis, but this is only objective evidence of the disease. The reality is that, in Spain, every day, three new cases of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis are diagnosed and three other people die in silence.
