Embarrassing Korean Drama, PSSI and Indra Sjafri are crushed by Shin Tae-yong

VIVA – Korean drama showing the dispute between PSSI, Shin Tae-yong and Indra Sjafri finally arrived in the final episode. Like most Korean dramas the ‘real’ Korean dramas created by PSSI ended happily.

PSSI, Shin Tae-yong and Indra Sjafri agreed to look forward, rebuilding their ideals so that Indonesian football achievers.

The end of this embarrassing drama was preceded by an internal meeting between PSSI Chairperson Mochamad Iriawan and Tae-yong on Friday, June 26, 2020.

Iriawan invited the 51-year-old coach to talk heart to heart. Reuniting the vision and mission of those who were divided.

“The discussion activity began at 20:00. I was alone with Tae-yong. Surely there was a translator. In essence, the meeting was, first there was indeed a clogged communication between PSSI and those concerned,” said Iriawan at the PSSI Office, Jakarta.

The man who is familiarly called Iwan Bule said, in personal communication with the South Korean coach it was agreed that PSSI and Tae-yong focused on developing Indonesian football.

“We have agreed what yesterday was a polemic, he has forgotten it. He wants to continue to build and train the Indonesian national team,” said Iriawan.

“The point is he will continue to train our national team U-19, U-23 and senior. We have finished it as a family. I hope he can come to Indonesia in early July,” he continued.

Although they have made peace, of course the national football public still remembers very well how the tensions that began in PSSI began.

It began with Tae-yong’s desire to bring the Indonesian national team to a training camp in South Korea. Tae Yong considers South Korea’s more conducive situation in the Corona pandemic to be a good reason to bring the Indonesian national team to train there.

However, PSSI rejected Tae-yong’s plans to train in South Korea. PSSI reasoned that when training camps were held in Indonesia, Tae-yong made it possible to train two national team categories namely the U-19 national team and the senior national team.

PSSI then formed the Indonesian National Team Task Force. This task force is responsible to the general chair of PSSI and is also involved in national team activities including recruitment and performance evaluation of trainers.

However, by far the most prominent of the Task Force was when Chairman Syarif Bastaman threatened to fire Tae-yong if he did not fulfill PSSI’s call to train his squad in Indonesia.

Syarif questions the reason Tae-yong did not want to go to Indonesia because the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia is still massive.

“Naturally, the coach came here (Indonesia) because of Covid-19? He forced us to train in South Korea,” Syarif said.

One of them is when Tae-yong revealed a number of complaints such as the inconvenience of working with PSSI.

Tae-yong rate PSSI does not consistently keep promises to advance Indonesian football. The 51-year-old coach also criticized the frequent change of positions in the body of the federation.

This was preceded by Ratu Tisha’s resignation as Secretary General of PSSI. In fact, what Tae-yong knows, Tisha is popular with fans because of her abilities.

Tae-yong was also surprised after PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan appointed Indra Sjafri as PSSI’s Technical Director. In fact, according to him Indra previously made a mistake when the U-19 TC national team in Thailand. The coach from West Sumatra returned home without his permission. At that time, Indra’s position was still under Tae-yong.

“The local coach came home earlier than TC. After that I intend to forgive him when we meet, if he recognizes his mistakes. But he is as normal as not making mistakes,” said Tae-yong.

“A head of a football association from a high-ranking police officer (Ketum PSSI, Iriawan) called me to meet. “The local coach left the office for two months and suddenly became Technical Director,” he said.

PSSI Technical Director, Indra Sjafi, or previously Tae-yong’s assistant gave clarification about Tae-yong’s outpouring of feelings to South Korean media.

Indra explained about the accusations that Tae-yong called him disciplinary for leaving the team first after undergoing TC U-19 Thailand.

The trainer from West Sumatra revealed that when he arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport on February 1, 2020, he was able to wait for Tae-yong to complete the immigration process.

However, Tae-yong never came out, Indra also asked permission from two national team staff to go first to attend the wedding reception of Rahmad Darmawan, Madura United’s coach.

“For people with eastern customs like us, coming to an event like this is very important as part of honoring invitations from colleagues or friends who are considered relatives,” he said.

It didn’t stop there, Indra called Tae-yong a liar because he dared to promise a title to the Indonesian national team before being given a four-year contract.

Unlike the previous Tae-yong competitors, Luis Milla. Former Spain U-23 national team coach was said Indra did not want to provide a guarantee.

“While other candidates, Luis Milla, cannot guarantee that. Liars are named if a coach can guarantee champions in football,” Indra said on the PSSI website.

Indra also alleges that Tae-yong has begun to lack confidence in being able to fulfill his promises. Therefore, Tae-yong began to criticize PSSI.

“He is actually just a lot of reasons because he is not sure he can meet the heavy targets imposed. PSSI wants the Indonesian national team to win the AFF 2020 Cup, improve FIFA rankings and the Indonesian U-20 national team achievers in the 2021 U-20 World Cup,” he said.

“It has been agreed what is the polemic, he has forgotten it, he wants to help football especially the national team. At the time he came there was a lot that was discussed with me including the roadmap.”

“We did not know that there was a COVID-19, so there must have been a change in the roadmap. But he remained committed to training the national team, both U-19, U23, and our seniors because at the beginning,” he continued.

Furthermore, Iriawan explained, in the virtual meeting, he and Tae-yong communicated cool and family. In fact, Iriawan likens his relationship with Tae-yong like brother and sister.

“We talk family. I said, Shin is 51 years old, I am 58 years old, meaning you are my younger brother. Indeed, before becoming manager of the coach, we both discussed a lot,” Iriawan said.
