Elvis Presley bragged about his new German girlfriend in a letter to his Mafia buddy from Memphis | music

In 1957 Elvis Presley achieved great fame. The star had already released five successful albums, including a number of successful singles such as Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes. He has also ventured into Hollywood and starred in a few films, including Jailhouse Rock, which further cemented his fame. So it was a big shock when he was drafted into the US Army. In 1958 the singer was sent to a military barracks in Friedberg, USA.

The star stayed in Germany until 1960 when he returned to the US and continued his entertainment career.

It was during this time that Elvis rose to prominence when many women started chasing after him.

In a letter he wrote to one of his close friends – Alan “Hog Ears” Fortis, a member of the Memphis Mafia – Elvis bragged about what he was doing with a new girl in Grind City.

He wrote: “I was with this little German chuckaloid named Margrit [Buergin]. “

Elvis added that his new ride looks like “BB” – short for star Brigitte Bardot.

Margaret was already very blonde and thin, like the aforementioned singer and actress.

Elvis boasted, “It’s Grind City. Well, I have to get into the mud. “

These comments could be clues as to what Elvis was up to with Margrit, or maybe they were slang for something else entirely.

However, he wasn’t always very happy in Germany. He also wrote to Hog Ears about how unhappy he was.

In the same letter Elvis said, “Well, you know that I would be very lonely or I wouldn’t write a letter.

“We’re in a 50 day training zone and believe me, it’s miserable. It’s cold and there is absolutely nothing to do here. I’m 200 miles from Friedberg and won’t be back until December 20th. “

“It’s definitely going to be a great Christmas this year. I would give almost anything to get home. You know, it will be March 1960 before I return to the States. I hate to think about it. “

The letter must have been written so early in his tenure in Germany that he lamented his “two more years” of residence.

Elvis then added, “I can’t wait to sing, travel, make movies, and most importantly, see the old gang and the old grasslands. All I do is sit back and count the days. “
