“Can’t wait to work with Bob Iger (Disney CEO, Di’s note) and Kathleen Kennedy (CEO of Disney-owned Lucasfilm, Di’s note) to make their content MORE woke,” he writes.
The play is by all accounts an April Fool’s joke. Elon Musk has on several occasions spoken out critically against what he perceives as “woke”. Disney has also previously been the focus of Elon Musk’s irritation, the multi-billionaire has, among other things paid for the legal process when actor Gina Carano sued Disney and Lucasfilm after being fired from the TV series “The Mandalorian” because of her social media posts.
Woke
Woke comes from American English and also began to be used in Swedish media around 2016. Anyone who is woke is aware of racism, injustice and discrimination. In some political circles, woke is used pejoratively (in a similar way that the term politically correct can be used).

Disney have themselves have not communicated anything about Elon Musk taking over as chief diversity officer. The company also already has one in the form of Tinisha Agramonte, who was appointed and took office as late as October 2023.
It’s not the first time that Tesla’s CEO is in a joking mood on April Fool’s Day. After Tesla in March 2018 had its worst stock market month in over seven years, Elon Musk joked that the company was bankrupt, something that drew criticism.
