Elon Musk fears for his life after revealing ‘Twitter files’ – People – Culture

The disclosure of the ‘Twitter files’, a series of documents that account for the internal communications of the platform, the decision-making for content moderation and the censorship of the social network regarding different issues of public interest , targeted Elon Musk, who not only fears for his life, but also for that of his family.

“I think Elon is a bit naive about the enemies he’s making for himself, especially with the Twitter files. I am not afraid, but I am very afraid that something could happen to Elon, even though he has about 100 security guards ”, said the father of the South African tycoon, Errol Musk, in dialogue with the newspaper ‘The Sun’.

A few days after the revelation of the first installment of the ‘Twitter files’, at the beginning of December 2022, The billionaire investor revealed, before hundreds of people who were in a live broadcast on Twitter Spaces, the fear he felt for his life.

“Frankly, the risk of something bad happening to me, even being shot, is great (…) It’s not hard to kill someone if you want, so I hope they don’t, but there is definitely a risk,” he said at that time. and, furthermore, he made it clear that he does not have any suicidal thoughts, so a mysterious sudden death would not be his doing: “If I kill myself, it’s not real.”

In the interest of protecting his personal safety, Musk blocked the Twitter account that monitored his location.

Concern for the well-being of his family was such that, after the increase in threats against him after the acquisition of Twitter, Elon decided to strengthen the security scheme. His father’s house, for example, includes a high-tech camera system, electrified fences, and 24-hour surveillance.

“I now have a quarter million rand security system with armed response from a new security company in my city, which I hear is pretty good,” Errol explained to the aforementioned media.

The disclosure of the ‘Twitter files’

The first installment of the ‘Twitter files’ was in charge of the American writer and journalist Matt Taibbi, who, after having access to the internal documentation of the platform, published a thread on the social network that aroused all kinds of reactions, in particular by a reason: focused on the decision to censor Hunter Biden’s laptop story ahead of the 2020 US presidential election.

The journalist Bari Weiss, for her part, was in charge of the second part of the files. The creation of blacklists, the interruption of unfavorable posts to be trending and the limitation of the visibility of entire accounts or even viral topics without informing the subscribers of the social network were just some of the practices denounced.

According to the information provided by Weiss, the platform would have blacklisted Stanford medicine professor Jay Bhattacharya, who argued that “covid-19 lockdowns would harm children”, right-wing American presenter Dan Bongino and to conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The next installment was once again in the hands of Taibbi, who addressed the blocking of former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account. “Whatever his opinion is about the decision to block Trump that day, the internal communications on Twitter between January 6 and 8 have a clear historical contribution,” said the journalist in the thread of the social network.

After an extensive enumeration of irregularities, Taitibbi concluded that Twitter, before the assault on the Capitol in 2021, deployed a series of tools to curb Trump’s participation in the social network. It was, finally, on January 8, 2021, that the former president was banned from the platform for his publications after the seizure of the legislative compound.

Other ‘Twitter files’ revealed the FBI sending account suggestions for review by the platform, the organized effort by representatives of the intelligence community (IC) to discredit leaked information about Hunter Biden and the manipulation of information around the covid-19 pandemic.

“Almost all the conspiracy theories people had about Twitter turned out to be true,” Musk said, according to the British television channel ‘Sky News’.
