Eleven-year-old boy dies after his home was shot down in Antwerp | Abroad

An eleven-year-old boy has been killed in a shooting in the Merksem district of Antwerp. Local police say she died when a house was targeted. The perpetrators shot at a garage door, but there were people living behind it.

The child would not have been hit directly by the bullets. She died when a microwave oven was hit and exploded. According to local media, it is a girl. Attempts were made to revive her on her spot. Two family members were slightly injured.

The family was known to the police which is why Mayor Bart de Wever suspects there is a link to drug crime in Antwerp. “Accidents have happened before. So it looks like this is an arrangement, again, in the environment,” De Wever told the TV show To the point.

“There is a war on drugs going on. Criminals are attacking the homes of other criminals. We have been experiencing this for months and what I feared for a long time has happened,” said De Wever. “An innocent victim fell, a child.”
