A man died after falling yesterday on the electrified “third rail” at the central 42nd Street station of the New York Subway, which also serves the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The passenger, who was not immediately identified, fell from the A/C/E lines platform onto the southbound tracks around 7:10 a.m. Thursday and landed on the “third rail,” according to a spokesperson for the NYPD.

Rescuers took the man to an area hospital but were unable to save him. It is not clear if it was an accidental or voluntary fall, but the police ruled out that it was caused by another person.

The fatal incident caused delays in morning rush hour service on the A/C/E lines, it said. New York Post. In general, this year there has been a long list of dramatic situations in the New York subway, between robberies, attacks, accidents, natural deaths, suicides, fatal overdoses and homicides.

In particular, last April was one of the most violent months in the history of the New York Subway since its founding in 1904. Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer whose election campaign focused on public safety, has implemented several measures to make the subway safer, including deploying more police officers to stations and cars. But so far fatalities continue to rise.
