Electricity Rates for Rich People Rise, PLN Allows Power Downs

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT PLN (Persero) allows its customers to apply power drop electricity, along with the issuance of policies rich people’s electricity rates or household customers with a power of 3,500 volt amperes (VA) and above experiencing an increase starting July 1, 2022.

“Regarding switching power, it is the community’s right to determine the installed power. So please (go ahead), this is the human right of each of our customers,” said PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Monday (April 18, 2018). 13/6/2022).

However, he reminded, customers must first take into account the level of electricity demand, before submitting a power reduction. Darmawan said, don’t let the electric power decrease, instead it will not accommodate the electricity needs of the electronic devices used.

“But of course, don’t force the power switch, then it crashes (because it’s overloaded), and that’s also a separate technical problem,” he said.

According to him, basically customers with middle to upper economic class do need quite a lot of electricity. This is because every customer’s house in this category has at least an air conditioner (AC).

“Electricity consumption is indeed correlated with the economic level of each customer. Of course, customers who can afford it may not have air conditioning, they must have. Then a well-established economic family, of course, every room has air conditioning, so of course the installed power is even more ,” he explained.

So, he stressed, in the installation of power it is necessary to adjust to the level of electricity consumption of the customer. The more you have electronic devices, of course you need higher electrical power.

“With the installed power, it adapts to the electricity consumption that is needed by the customer on a daily basis. Of course there are 3,500 VA, 5,500 Va, 6,500 VA, that is in accordance with the electricity consumption of each of our customers,” said Darmawan.

For information, the government has decided to increase the electricity tariff for the rich or household customers of the R2 class with a power of 3,500 VA-5,500 VA and R3 with a power of 6,600 VA and above, which will take effect from July 1, 2022.

Later, during July-September 2022, for household customers in the R2 and R3 classes, the electricity tariff will be adjusted from IDR 1,444.70 per kWh to IDR 1,699.53 per kWh, with an average account increase of IDR 111,000 per month for R2 customers and IDR 346,000. per month for R3 customers.

The tariff will be adjusted every 3 months in the future by taking into account the development of macroeconomic indicators, namely the exchange rate, the average price of Indonesian crude oil (ICP), inflation, and the average price of coal.
