The signs prohibiting entry of cars with a low economic class will not apply to electric vehicles and vehicles with gas engines. The innovation will work from July 1, 2021, it follows from the amendments to the SDA prepared by the Ministry of Transport.
Indexes were introduced in the SDA in 2018: the number on them indicates the environmental class of the car engine (Euro-0, Euro-1, Euro-2, Euro-4, etc.), which Drive to a specific area or area. Until now, such signs have not been used anywhere.
“Vehicles using equipment for working on gas engine fuel formally have a lower environmental class set for a gas engine,” the Ministry of Transport explained. Vehicles that serve enterprises located in the designated zone, as well as vehicles owned by citizens residing or working in the designated zone, will also be removed from the ban.
At the end of 2019, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov, the Russian Ministry of Transport, the governments of Moscow and St. Petersburg began developing a “road map” for introducing zones in cities where vehicles with a low environmental class would be prohibited from passing. Subsequently, work on the document was frozen.
