Distance school drop-out. If parents do not respond to teachers’ contact details, schools should notify Children Protection Commission – Obs …

Ana Cláudia Cohen reinforces this idea. Parents’ associations were heard and having a unilateral position of the parent refusing education, without justification, is undesirable. “There has to be common sense because the child suffers and is harmed,” he says, remembering that the decree law approved by the Council of Ministers only suspends classroom activities.

“We have cases of parents, who are reported by teachers to Fenprof, who do not want kids on platforms with images, who are afraid that their addiction to being at the computer will increase or that images will be captured and used in other situations,” says Mário Nogueira who argues that distance learning “is not the school in its natural expression”.

The union also received reports from parents who do not authorize teachers to directly send e-mails to young children and who prefer to be themselves rather than bridge the gap between student and teacher. “Education is mandatory, but it has the concept of presence. It’s one thing to go to school, it’s another thing for students to be on the net, ”says Nogueira, the ideal would be for parents to be with the kids, especially the younger ones. But if there are parents in teleworking, there are also families who simply do not have digital literacy, he explains, just as even among teachers there are those who are not 100% comfortable with the use of digital platforms.

This is really the question that has been most asked to Fenprof unions: the use of platforms worries teachers, some are even afraid to use them, others remember that to have access to all features they have to be paid and there are even those who do not not even be able to use them due to network problems. Mário Nogueira also says that there are those who complain that parents interfere in the teaching method and those who call teachers at any time, even those that teachers have reserved to be with their children and families. “There is no balance possible when the situation is unbalanced. Colleagues really want to find normality within abnormality, but it doesn’t exist ”, defends the leader of Fenprof, who also perceives the fears of his parents.

“Nobody can force a father to let his son always be at the computer, but the blocks of classes must also not pass the 30 minutes. What is the alternative? Five months of vacation? It is also not an option. The mistake is someone thinking that the end of the year is coming and that it was the same as being in classrooms. It is not. This will not happen, even in cases where there is a lot of follow-up ”, argues Mário Nogueira.

From the Ministry of Education, says Filinto Lima, there have been many calls for schools not to lose sight of students in more complicated situations. Behind an absence may be a situation of domestic violence, neglect or human dramas powered by poverty.

“In my group, we haven’t had any situation yet, but they may happen now in the 3rd period. I have already asked teachers to have more frequent contact with students and guardians, and it is one of the things that the Ministry of Education has asked of us the most: so that we do not lose track of the most vulnerable students ”, points out the professor from Vila Nova de Gaia.

For Filinto Lima it is very important to know where the students are: “It also serves to understand what is happening in that house. The student’s detachment can hide a drama that goes beyond the school itself, but one that needs to be addressed. In schools we are very concerned with the social side, we cannot close our eyes. ”
