Since the 2015 law on the New Territorial Organization of the Republic (NOTRe), the regions French women have new skills. While the regional councils will be renewed in June 2021 during the regional elections, let’s take stock of these exclusive or shared skills.

Economic development
The region is responsible for drawing up a regional economic development plan which allows it to directly grant aid to companies especially for innovation and internationalization. It also leads the competitiveness clusters.
Transports
The region has recovered the management of transports regular non-urban and school transport which were previously managed by the department. The same goes for the bus stations (excluding Ile-de-France and Lyon metropolitan area) and the 272 ports which were until 2017 managed by the departments. This involves, for example, balancing the establishment of large infrastructures throughout the region. Skills shared with the departments
The regional councils share some skills with the departmental councils in the fields of tourism, culture, sport, popular education, digital development and the promotion of regional languages, such as Breton for example.
