Egyptian Imports Decline by 8.2% in December: Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics Report

In its data, the Statistics Authority attributed this decline to a decline in the value of imports of a group of commodities, the most important of which were organic and inorganic chemicals, which amounted to about $210 million last December, compared to $229 million in the same month in 2022, a decline of 8.2%, followed by imports of plastics. In its initial forms, it amounted to about $205 million last December, compared to $248 million in the same month in 2022, a decline of 17.2%.

The list of the most important declining commodities also included soybeans, whose imports amounted to about $114 million last December, compared to $134 million in the same month in 2022, a decline of 14.7%, in addition to imports of wood and its products, whose imports amounted to about $88 million last December. Compared to $148 million in the same month in 2022, a decline of 40.5%.

On the other hand, the agency’s data showed an increase in the value of imports of some goods during the month of last December compared to their counterpart for the same month of the previous year, the most important of which were petroleum products by 24.7%, raw materials of iron or steel by 80.2%, medicines and pharmaceutical preparations by 5.8%, and wheat by 20.7%. .
