Egypt faces Côte d’Ivoire in the opening of the African Blind Goalball Championship today – Youm7

The African Blind Goalball Championship for men and women, which qualifies for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, will kick off today, Sunday, at the Dr. Hassan Mostafa Hall on the 6th of October, with the Egyptian national team meeting with its Côte d’Ivoire counterpart.

The opening of the tournament will be attended by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, who is keen to support the Paralympic Games and supports them in various tournaments out of belief in their abilities and their right to practice sports.

A number of leaders from the Ministry of Sports and various federations are present at the opening of the tournament today, in addition to the president and members of the Sports Federation for the Blind, led by Dr. Ahmed Awain. The tournament will continue until the 18th of December with the participation of 7 countries: Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, and Kenya.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Awain, President of the Egyptian Sports Federation for the Blind, stressed the importance of the African Goalball Championship for the Blind, as it is the last important stage in qualifying for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and the Federation is counting on it a lot to achieve the achievement of rising and being present in the great sporting festival.

Awain revealed the distinguished role played by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the great supporter of the federation and the players during the past period in all material and moral aspects.

The President of the Blind Union said that the Board of Directors has great confidence in the players to perform at an outstanding level and qualify for the Paralympic Games, an achievement that has been absent for more than 32 years, as the men’s team’s last participation was in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

The Egyptian team for the blind had won first place in the Second International Pyramids Championship, which was held in Cairo at Hassan Mostafa Hall, and the Egyptian team won in the final over Saudi Arabia 9-0.
