Efforts to Release Detainees in Gaza: U.S. Official to Visit Israel and Middle East

Today, Sunday, the American website Axios quoted four unnamed American and Israeli officials as saying that Brett McGurk, senior advisor to US President Joe Biden, is expected to visit Israel and countries in the region this week, to discuss efforts to release detainees in the Gaza Strip.
The website stated that McGurk is expected to stop in Brussels on his way to the Middle East, in order to coordinate with NATO and European allies regarding the Gaza war.
The website explained, quoting officials, that among the ideas under discussion is the release of about 80 women and children detained by Hamas in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian women and teenagers detained in its prisons.
Israeli officials were quoted as saying that the deal being discussed could also include allowing fuel to enter the Gaza Strip.
However, he stated that American and Israeli officials indicated that the deal is not imminent, but discussions about it are continuing.
The website stated that McGurk is also expected to visit Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Qatar, in addition to a visit to Bahrain next week for the Manama Dialogue.
