Foliar samples were taken at flowering time (48 dds), aerial biomass before foliage burning (93 dds) and tubers at harvest time (116 dds). Tissue samples were measured fresh and dry weight and chemical analysis was performed for N, P, Ca, Mg, K, Mn, Zn, Cu, Fe, S and B. By applying P only the first year of the experiment, the yield of the culture was inferior and no residual effect was appreciated with any of the doses. With the consecutive application of P for 2 years, the crop responded in an increasing way to the increase in the dose of fertilizer, reaching the maximum yield of tubers (16.39 t.ha-1) with 600 kg.ha-1 of P2O5. The variation of nutrients in the tissues was not affected by the addition of P. Mobile nutrients (NPK) were redistributed in a higher percentage to tubers by 27-65%, followed by those with variable mobility Cu, Mg and Zn, by 14-38% and finally the Ca, Mn and Fe that were barely extracted / redistributed by 2-6%. To obtain a significant residual effect of P in the soil, it was necessary to apply 450 kg.ha-1 of P2O5 for 2 consecutive years. It is suggested that to obtain an adequate yield of tubers in this Andisol it is necessary to apply P in each cycle. 2015-06-09T21: 31: 09Z 2015-06-09T21: 31: 09Z 2015-06-09T21: 31: 09Z scientific article http://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/agrocost/article/view / 6734 http://hdl.handle.net/10669/13867 is Costa Rican Agronomy Vol. 33 No. 1 application / pdf institution
