Education – Fürth – Significantly fewer university final exams in the Corona year – Bavaria

Fürth (dpa / lby) – In the Corona year 2020, the number of successfully passed final exams at Bavaria’s universities fell by 8.4 percent. A total of 72,446 candidates received their certificates from universities and technical colleges. Half (50.6 percent) of them were women, as the State Office for Statistics announced on Tuesday in Fürth. With the successful completion of the doctorate, 2180 female and 2474 female academics earned a doctorate.

The decline was most pronounced, at just under 14 percent, for university degrees. However, due to the corona pandemic, the students had the opportunity to extend deadlines for taking examinations. In total, the universities still had the most successful degrees (47.2 percent) at 34,161, and a further 28,122 were awarded for technical college degrees (38.8 percent). In addition, 4575 graduates passed their teaching examinations, 4654 their doctorates and 934 the examination for artistic or other university degrees.

While the gender share was balanced on balance, the share of female graduates with artistic and other degrees (just under 56 percent) was significantly higher. In the so-called MINT subjects (mathematics, engineering, natural sciences and technology), however, at around 31 percent, they made up less than a third of the graduates.
